Welcome to the first monthly Estepona
Golf Newsletter, giving you all the news from your favourite club on the
coast. There has been a lot happening recently, on the course and in the
clubhouse, with some remarkable results for both. The biggest new development is the
work that has started on the 2nd hole,
it is part of a bigger project to reduce the third hole from a par 5 to a
par 4. The CourseEstepona Golf is privately owned by Rory Leader, whose policy is to concentrate on visiting golfers as a "pay as you play" course. The course was designed by Jose Luis Lopez and first opened in 1989. The design uses the natural landscape, which is set against the Sierra Bermeja mountain range, and enjoys sea views from most parts of the course. The fairways are wide and the greens large, which provides a challenge for players of all levels, but doesn't penalize the average golfer. New Developments on the 2nd Tee
From the 15th of
the February 2005, our
special offers are changing to:
Captain's Day Our annual Captain's day was held on Saturday the 8th of January. Organized by club captain, Andy Hunter, the day was a great success from start to finish. “A
great day enjoyed by all, with some brilliant golfing results and an
excellent three course lunch” Over 60 players turned out to brave the winds on Saturday morning, with the hope of adding more crystal to their mantelpiece. The competition was fierce, with a wide range of players wining various prizes. Our young players did especially well, with Philip Bootsma scoring excellently and winning a par 3 nearest the pin, well done ! Afterwards, Peter Cannon and his team in the restaurant provided an excellent three-course lunch with wine, which was followed by the presentation of some magnificent glass trophies to the winners. Scandinavian Competition Estepona Golf would like to say a big welcome back to all our Scandinavian members. It is brilliant to see so many of you returning every year and taking part in our annual Scandinavian Open. This Year, the competition was organized by our Norwegian Marshal Bjorn, and has taken place over four days. There has been a great turn out and we hope you all enjoyed yourselves immensely. Hole in one A big congratulation goes to Francisco Beltran-Calderon, who managed a hole in one on the 16th with an eight iron. He was playing in an Estebbuna club competition held at Estepona Golf on the 22nd of January. Forty players took part on which was described as a very successful day. Please remember that Estepona Golf is willing to make special offers for groups and societies who wish to hold a golfing event at Estepona Golf. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can also be included in any golf package you wish to arrange, as well as buggies and prizes. Please speak to Amanda to arrange your day to your exact specification Pro shop Offer This months´ pro-shop offer is on end of line Golf shoes. We have some brilliant brand names such as Footjoy, Reebok, Nike, Etonic and Copenhagen at heavily reduced prices. Most shoes are up to 40 % off original retail price. Please hurry, as these shoes will not remain in the shop at these prices for long! Refurbishments There have been a great many improvements made to the club in recent months. Both the clubhouse and the changing rooms have brand new carpet and have been repainted. The changing room toilets and showers have also been redecorated and are looking superb. Downstairs the bar and restaurant have also been re-decorated and the bar has been sanded down and re-varnished. The end result is a classy and comfortable space. On the course It is not only the
clubhouse which has undergone a facelift but also the course. 250 mature
olive trees have been planted throughout the course, which helps to
provide a very Spanish feel. Extensive work has also been carried out in
laying new Bermuda tees on a number of holes, resulting in an
outstanding playing surface. | ||||
