Welcome
to Estepona Golf’s newsletter for April 2006!
With
the Easter weekend from Friday 14th to Monday 17th
we are expecting lots of returning golfers!
The golf course is now in superb condition. The greens are currently set
up for 11.5 on the stimp meter and are as true as always.
The fairways are lush and appear highly grateful for the rain that
we’ve recently received over the past couple of months. Our reservoirs
are already full, despite a relatively dry winter, ready for the high
temperatures we’re expecting during the summer months ahead.

Black
Swans
|
|
|
Since
2000, Estepona Golf has been home to a flock of beautiful black
swans.
Despite
several setbacks, the swans successfully bred here for the first
time a couple of years ago.
But life can be quite cruel in the wild, and of the 5
sygnets, two buggered off to God knows where, and the smallest of
the flock became extremely weak, and had to be rescued from the
Lake on the 10th hole by Lyndley when he was abandoned
by his parents, and was being attacked by others birds.
Lyndley
took him home, put him in the bath, and then to bed for the night
(which raised a few eyebrows). After a couple of days rest, he was
brought back to the golf course, and is now one of the five adults
we have here.
Bizarrely,
he’s totally tame, and walks or flies up to golfers to be fed by
hand.
He also follows Lyndley around wherever he goes on his
buggy. As we’ve explained to Lyndley, swans mate for life…
The
black swan is an Australian water bird.
Unlike other swans, the black swan is not migratory and
will reuse the same nest every year, which they will typically
build in the middle of a shallow lake.
Both the male and the female will raise their young and the
sygnets will stay with their parents for about a year. |
